PTI Protests 2024: Reasons And Government’s Response To The Protest

PTI protest 2024, the call for final and decisive rally. Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf, the renowned political party of Pakistan, called out its members on 24 November to reach Islamabad for a historic protest. But the current government of Pakistan has taken measures to keep conditions under control. They planned to block every entry and exit route to Islamabad to halt the protest. Despite all these hurdles, PTI leader Imran Khan instructed his party to conduct protests in their respective cities to show support.

Now let’s take a deeper look at the reason for this PTI protest and what is the government’s response to this protest.

Reasons For PTI 24 November Protest

1. Detention Of Imran Khan

PTI members demand the release of their leader Imran Khan in the November 24, 2024, protest. They added Imran Khan has been jailed because of political rivalry, not due to criminal charges. Imran Khan and other pTI members should be free from all charges and judicial custody.

PTI leader Barrister Saif, in a public address, remarked, “The purpose of staging the protest is to ensure the release of the PTI founder and other leadership members.” He further criticized the government for refusing to engage in fair legal proceedings.”

    2. Demand For Electoral Reforms

The PTI government once again doubts the transparency of the election. They refused to accept these election results. PTI contends that electoral reforms should be monetized in a manner that ensures transparency and fairness.

      3. Allegations Of Political Suppression

PTI claims that PML-N aimed to suppress opposition power in Pakistan. The 26th amendment is the proof of their words. Their amendments restrict judicial power and enforce political power in the judiciary also.

PTI members said that protest is the right of every opposition. When the opposition feels that the current administration failed to perform their required duties, they will seek help through protest. But the PML-N, by issuing Section 144 in Punjab restricting all public gatherings, is depriving people of their right to protest. According to PTI, the current political control fails to manage Pakistan’s economic crisis, unemployment, and inflation; thus, they are doing it for Pakistan’s well-being.

Government Response To PTI Protests 2024

The Pakistani government, led by Shahbaz Sharif, has taken a firm stance against the PTI 24 November protest. He took the following measures to keep the situation under control:

        1. Opposition To Public Gatherings

The Pakistan government has active Section 144 in Punjab and Islamabad and restricts public gatherings. This section demands no gatherings, public meetings, or large assemblies.

Minister’s Statement: “Nobody will be allowed to stage a sit-in or protest in Islamabad. Those violating the law will be dealt with according to the court’s directives,” Mohsin Naqvi stated during a media briefing.

          2. Security Measures And Crackdowns

To control that massive PTI protest, police officers and army commanders are deployed to arrest PTI members and leaders and other citizens that are protesting. The government claims that to enhance security, crackdown of active protest members and lockdown in cities is crucial.

Punjab Government Actions: A notification issued by Punjab authorities declared that Section 144 would remain in effect from November 23 to November 25. Law enforcement agencies were instructed to act swiftly against any violations.

            3. Economic Impact Argument

The government of Pakistan accused the PTI of protesting a billion-dollar loss in the Pakistani economy. Ministers claim that this shutdown all over Pakistan affects the trade market and businesses. They also mentioned that the PTI part is using public interest for their own benefit. Protest 2024 brings no good but only harm to Pakistan’s social, political, and economic well-being.

Minister’s Concern: “Opposition-led protests are damaging the country’s fragile economy. At a time when we are working to stabilize the economy, such disruptions are counterproductive,” Dar remarked in a recent press conference.

              4. Negotiation Deadlock

The negotiations between the government and PTI members reached a dead end. Both parties accused each other of unnecessary demands. PTI members demand the discharge of their leader Imran Khan’s custody, while the government implicates this demand as an irrelevant demand. In the rivalry of other political parties, only the people of Pakistan suffer.

Government Stance: “We are ready for dialogue, but no one will be allowed to hold the nation hostage under the pretext of protests,” an official statement from the Interior Ministry declared.

                Conclusion

In the end everyone wants the development and prosperity of Pakistan. So both parties ruling party i.e. PML-N and protesting party i.e. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf should come together and discuss their principles and work side by side for the progress and advancement of Pakistan.
