A Viral Selfie That Sparks Controversy For Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi Denies Endorsing Zionist Movement Amid Photo Controversy

An event took place last week when a selfie of former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi went viral with a Zionist group. Along with that Zionist claims that Shahid Afridi approaches them and endorses their movement.
The people are from FOI (Friends of Israel), an organization that advocates for Israel. They claim that while protesting on the streets of Manchester, Shahid Afridi approached them and deliberately asked for the selfie, showing his support for Israel. They are holding banners that have slogans like #BRING THEM HOME, as well as a picture of a baby, which is for the release of hostages held by Hamas.
In a picture, Afridi can be seen standing in between these two men holding these flyers. Also X (formerly Twitter) organization thanks Shahid Afridi for his support and claims that he took pictures with the co-chair and deputy chairperson of the FOI.

Once his post went viral, Shahid Afridi also took to his social media handle to clarify the situation. He denied his endorsement of the Zionist group and denied all their allegations. According to him, they are fans with whom he took the picture. He didn’t know their real intentions, as he takes pictures with fans from all over the globe. He also emphasized the need to end war and promote peace worldwide.

When FOI claimed Shahid Afridi supported them, author Fatima Bhutto also stepped in and asked Shahid Afridi for clarification. Once Shahid Afridi put forth his view, she said they were eager for support to show there were more than five people at the event.
But the matter doesn’t end here.

FOI countered the Shahid Afridi statement and said he allegedly posed for the picture with the flyers in their hands.

Shahid Afridi denied all these allegations, and said that as a Muslim, I pray for peace in the world. He also asked them to remove this inaccurate post.

After this post, FOI didn’t keep silent and kept on bugging Shahid Afridi on X (formerly Twitter). They wanted Shahid Afridi to claim his action. In the posts mentioned below, we can see they are trying their best to prove their point of view and claim Afridi support.

Well, after clarifying everything, Shahid Afridi did not reply further to the FOI post.

Conclusion

This incident highlights how easily people can misrepresent photos and interactions in the digital age, leading to potential misunderstandings. Afridi swiftly responded and clearly stated his position, showing his commitment to ensuring people do not misconstrue his actions, especially on sensitive and contentious issues.
