Mental Health: The Most Neglected And The Serious Issue

The importance of mental health is still unknown in society despite all the world’s development in all aspects.

From childhood, we all have heard the most famous quotation about health: health is wealth.

This quote explains the importance of health. If you are healthy, you are far better than those wealthy people who have power, money, and all life luxuries but can’t enjoy them because of their poor health conditions.

But every time we heard those verses, what was the first thought that came to our minds?

(Oh yes, they are talking about physical health)

NO,

Health is essential, either it is physical or mental. You know that the complications related to physical health in your body can be detected and treated promptly.

But, the major problem with mental health is that, on the first hand, they are not considered problems, and people suffering from them do not have any idea about the general issues.

What Is Mental Health?

Mental health is your ability to tackle life’s problems, hurdles, and stress; your judgment ability includes emotional, practical, and social well-being.

Even the robots depend upon their software. Any minor issue in their programming affects their whole working, even if their body is excellent!

So, what about us? We are humans. Our whole-body function depends on our brains. If there is some problem with our mental health, how can we reasonably perform all tasks?

No, just like robots, despite being physically fit, we will be good for nothing without mental health.

Mental Health Complications

When our mental health gets disturbed, and consequently the fuss starts building up in our minds, then they lead to:

  • Depression
  • Panic attacks
  • Social isolation
  • anxiety disorder
  • drug addictiveness
  • Loss of interest in life ultimately leads to suicide!

Young people are facing this problem more as compared to the elder ones.

1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 years experience a mental health disorder each year.

Mental Health And Youth

Teenage is the most beautiful yet challenging phase of our life because at this time, we are learning, improving, and falling—a shift from the carefree childhood world to the entirely different and chaotic one.

I am not wrong to say that every trivial matter is a significant issue in youth time. The one who learns to manage it can pass this phase successfully, but one who does not falls ultimately into the trap of mental health problems.

Mental Health In Students

I agree that mental health issues are present in high school students, but university students are its primary target.

From 2010 to 2021, around 34.1 percent of college and university students took medication for their mental health concerns.

Reasons For Mental Health Issues In Students

There are several reasons for mental health problems in students, but I will discuss the major ones here.

  1. Expectations

I know expectations are reasonable, but the excess of everything is terrible. If you fail to achieve your goal, it does not mean you should start doubting yourself and thinking that you did not work hard enough.

No! A different path and destination are waiting for you. Never give up on your life! Every successful person once fails in their lifetime.

What if he quits at that time? So, abandoning your dreams is not the solution to the problems. The failures polish you and help you to achieve your success efficiently.

  1. Lack Of Proper Guidance

In university, we are only focusing on cramming the subjects. No practical knowledge is provided.

Without specific guidance and directions, we don’t know what to do and how to perform in practical life, ultimately leading to depression.

Start educating yourself. Many online platforms are here for your guidance. Train yourself for your practical life.

  1. Society Standards

Is it necessary to follow those standards? Not! Every successful man sets his standards. Stop comparing yourself with others. Everyone has a different story and result.

Stop judging yourself on the merits of others because it is the leading cause of mental health disturbance.

  1. Career Anxiety

Well, I am not saying you must be unaware of your future but overthinking is not good. Plan it and work hard for it.

It is normal to start from scratch or have a low income initially. It does not represent that you have dropped out of your aim and should lose hope.

If the path is difficult, the harder you will have to struggle, and the more attractive your destination will be.

Conclusion

In case life become a rocky path and difficulties become milestones toward your destination, then always remind yourself of your last journey, which you have cleared till now.

The thought that if you have arrived here, you can also reach there will become a ray of sunshine in the dark.

Do not let your weak thoughts become a hurdle in your life. Don’t underestimate yourself.

You are the pillar of the nation. You must be strong to help in the growth and development of the country.
